WHAT ARE TJAPS?

Tjaps (pronounced "chops") are exquisite works of art in their own right.
Each one is made by hand - small strips of copper woven into intricate designs. They have been used in Indonesia for centuries to produce their wonderful batik fabric, waxing the designs before painting the cloth.
Although Kathie likes to use them in her paintings, when not in use they look simply beautiful displayed on a shelf or framed and hung on a wall.

Many of our tjaps have been used in actual fabric production, so they may have small imperfections. But they are the real thing and one of a kind.
Few Indonesians still practice this craft and tjaps are increasingly difficult to find. We will continue to offer them as long as we can.
